Girls Leadership Program teaches girls life skills which equip them to be resilient, courageous, compassionate and empowered young women.

Although it is difficult to ascertain the exact statistics for domestic abuse in South Africa due to unreported cases, the accepted statistic indicates 1 out 4 women is in an abusive relationship.

Girls who are exposed this abuse in their environments are at high risk of experiencing the same abuse in relationships as they enter intimate relationships.

The three key factors which influence this risk are:

  • Self-Esteem
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Role Modeling

Women who are not in abusive relationships have clear standards, confidently set personal boundaries, cultivate authentic self-esteem and have experienced healthy role modeling.

I believe that prevention is better than cure. This means intervention at the early stages of the abuse cycle is essential. Developing a healthy identity based on authentic values is key to assertive, confident, connected, compassionate young women.

The Girls Leadership Program is structured around three core values:

  • Authenticity
  • Collaboration
  • Empowerment

Each core value includes Life Skills modules which are designed to lower the risk of perpetuation the abuse cycle, whilst enhancing self-esteem, increasing emotional and interpersonal intelligence, and subsequently cultivating heart centred leadership.

The experience of each program includes art journaling, interactive discussion, role play and eco-psychology.

The life skills which are transferred in these programs:

  • Intra-personal development. Cultivating self-esteem and an authentic identity.
  • Diversity as a strength. Diversity in an eco-system creates a sustainable environment for the whole to thrive.
  • Conflict resolution. This life skill is essential to navigating challenging situations in life.
  • Service to community. Cultivating compassion and empathy.
  • Self-care and body image. Healthy body image is one of the major contributing factors to self-esteem building.
  • Interpersonal development. Assertive communication and relationship building skills.
